Violet Wands Essential Guide

Guide to Violet Wands

Stimulating in so many ways, violet wands have been a BDSM staple for decades. The sensations they give range from a light tickle to quite a hefty shock. The concept was invented in the early 1900's as a tool for electrotherapy but now they can be found in bedrooms and bondage dungeons alike as an invigorating form of foreplay and sensation play.

Solid State or Mechanical?

Most often when shopping for violet wands, you will come across what are called solid state wands; there is however another type called mechanical. Here's a quick breakdown of the differences:

Solid State Violet Wands:

  • Lightweight
  • Less Expensive
  • Can run indefinitely without overheating
  • Omnidirectional - operates in any direction you turn it, even upside down
  • Puts out about half the power of a mechanical wand

Mechanical Violet Wands:

  • Twice as powerful as the solid state
  • Can be expensive
  • Needs extra cooling time and shorter play sessions
  • Loses power if rotated

In our opinion solid state is by far the superior type as the only advantage to mechanical state is its additional power. That's why here at UberKinky we only sell solid state wands. However we are currently considering expanding our range of violet wands with some of the mechanical state variety to satisfy some of the more hard core users.

Different Methods of Violet Wand Play

There are so many different ways to play with a violet wand that you may never have the same experience twice. Most techniques fall into three main categories: Direct, Indirect and Reverse. Familiarising yourself with the basics of these techniques will give you the foundation to a variety of violet wand uses and pleasures.

Direct Method

Dr Clockwork Violet Wand Comb Electrode

What is it?

The direct method of violet wand play is the one you're probably most familiar with. This is where the use of the glass electrodes comes into play. Each electrode creates a different sensation whether you want a gentle electro tickle or pinpoint precision. Generally, the wider the head, the gentler the sensation and with the extremely narrow electrodes, the zap is quite intense!

How is it done?

With the violet wand unit turned off, insert the electrode you plan on using and ensure it is seated well. Now switch it on to low and test the power on your arm, adjust as needed before hovering this electrically charged electrode over your submissive's erogenous zones.

Indirect Method

What is it?

With the indirect method you become a human electrode! Sparks will fly from just your touch and this isn't just limited to your fingertips!

How is it done?

For this method, you will need a body probe which is a long cord that plugs into your violet wand. The idea is that you either hold this body probe in your hand or tucked in to your clothing against your skin.

You can then experiment by using your lips, tongue, toes and even sex organs to stimulate your play partner's skin. Your body has instantly become an erotic electro sex toy used to tempt and tease. Other fun ways of using this method would be with the use of Mylar floggers, carbon fibre canes or extendable forks. While the body probe is touching your skin you can now use these specialised toys to flog, stimulate or cane your partner with electrifying results.

Reverse Method

Reverse Method

What is it?

Using the reverse method, now your submissive becomes the electrode and you are simply pulling the spark from their skin. Now your sub is their own tool of torture!

How is it done?

Secure the body probe to your submissive or tuck it under their body if they're lying down. Now your hands are free to draw the sparks out from their body. This technique works exactly the same as the indirect method except now you have two free hands, all the accessories you may have tried using the indirect method will also work with the Reverse Method. Try rolling a pinwheel over their skin for a delightful shriek!

Branding

For more advanced users, some find using a violet wand with a branding electrode a fun and erotic way to create temporary brands onto the skin.

Safety

As far as electro sex devices, violet wands are the safest electrical sex toys on the market. However when playing with violet wands, a little common sense goes a long way. Here's a list of tips which will help keep you and your submissive safe during play:

Don't:

  • Use for extended periods of time on one specific area, as this can cause a sunburn like redness that will subside after a few hours.
  • Use near the eyes or the insides of the ears.
  • Use if you or your partner are pregnant.
  • Ever use a violet wand on anyone with a history of heart disease or nerve damage.
  • Ever use electro sex toys on someone with a pacemaker, insulin pump or any other electrically operated implant.
  • We hope we don't have to tell you this but do not use your violet wand near water or flammable liquids.

Do:

  • Ensure both you and your partner are well hydrated and are playing in a ventilated room, as some people can be sensitive to the ozone that violet wands create.
  • If it's your first time, use your violet wand below the waist as the body is fleshier here and the sensation won't be as intense.
  • Use violet wands on bare skin. The electrical charge can penetrate most materials. If your submissive remains clothed keep in mind that staying in one area could damage rubber, vinyl or polyester.
  • Test the violet wand on yourself before you use it on your sub. Start off with the lowest setting and ramp it up from there.
  • Be careful around piercings and needlework as the violet wand's current could arc to metal, causing a more intense shock.
  • Make sure your violet wand and accessories are in tip top condition, free from cracks or sharp edges.
