I can see a rainbow...
Isn’t it ironic, don’t ya think? Sorry, but you can’t beat a little bit of Alanis Morissette to help illustrate a point! Although much of what she sang about wasn’t in fact ironic, what is, however, is that in the UK’s 9th annual LBGT History Month, many of our British athletes have been away participating in the Winter Olympics, hosted by Russia; a country that only recently introduced a law remarkably similar to the one that we celebrate abolition of at this time each year. So, what better time to show our support and appreciation to the LBGT community than this very February?

There’s nothing queer about LBGT History Month. It is annually observed in February to coincide with the major 2005 celebration of the repeal on Section 28. Section 28 prohibited the discussion of LBGT issues in schools and the promotion/portrayal of homosexual relations as an ‘acceptable family relationship’. The month is not only intended to mark this great turning point in LBGT rights, but also to commemorate the lives and achievements of the lesbian, bisexual, gay and transgender community throughout history. It continues to challenge preconceptions and homophobic attitudes today.
Since the abolition of Section 28 in 2003, and with the continued support for LBGT issues, attitudes towards homosexuality and the Trans community have altered significantly. LBGT History Month continues encouraging people to learn about the history of gay rights and related civil movements. The stated aim is to “educate out prejudice” whilst “celebrating the diversity of society as a whole”. This month is intended to help stamp out homophobic views, so that people can learn to accept themselves and be proud to be ‘different’, just like you guys! So, it’s not only important to spread awareness and show support, but also give a little something back to a community that has contributed so much. As you know, we’re big believers in giving here at UberKinky, and not always to receive. Although, we do enjoy a bit of both ;)
Now, it’s always touching and sends out a good message when someone in the public eye comes out. However, the timing couldn’t have been better for us to hear the heart warming news from Ellen Page. You remember Juno, right?! Not only is it LBGT History Month, but she was also addressing a conference hosted by the Human Rights Campaign. Check out her speech below.
Right... now that’s it with the serious stuff! Let’s get back to the UberKinky matter at hand. The Winter Olympics became a platform for us, as a country, to demonstrate our opposition to such homophobic legislation. Two of the most memorable protests this year have included a fabulously flamboyant advert from channel 4 and a rainbow themed Google homepage. Well, here at UberKinky, we hate to disappoint and we’re all for diversity ;) Our collection of toys and bondage gear ranges from the extreme to the very extreme and we know that’s just the way you like it. So youngsters may be learning all about homosexual history this month, but we know that you guys are old enough to really celebrate in style. So, as a treat to all of you loyal UberKinky followers, and to show our support of the LBGT community as a whole, we’re offering a 15% discount on a selection of tantalising toys... one for every colour of the rainbow.
This year’s LBGT History Month's theme is music so, as you can imagine, we’ve spent the entire month humming ‘I can sing a rainbow’ here at UberKinky HQ...
ENJOY!
